A gunner’s cockpit on the stern of a sunken Higgins boat is a spooky reminder of grim moments during World War II.  Thousands of plywood Higgins Boats were built in Louisiana to ferry troops ashore under gunfire for D-Day and numerous landings in the Pacific.
