Cannery Tender
<< Back to map
Cannery Tenders support fishing vessels by transporting their catches to canneries, so that fishermen can stay at sea and keep fishing. The wrecked tender in Lake Union probably looked like the tender Nereid, shown docked at a cannery in the old photo below. In the days when many fishing vessels in Alaska operated under sail, a cannery tender might also serve to tow them to and from fishing grounds.
